The Kenyan Rift valley can be described as a "tunnel of wonders" - a geographical split that runs through the heart of East Africa - dotted with roughly half a dozen lakes and with parts of it a short distance from Nairobi, the valley proves to be a popular destination with both resident and non resident tourists. A drive along its edge reveals sights that are simply breath taking and a stop or two at some of the view points allows one to take in the arresting landscape. The northern part of the Rift Valley - home to Lake Turkana (formerly known as Lake Rudolph) remains an unexplored region, but one with a host of attractions, including the Turkana people who are still deeply steeped in their culture as well as The archaeological heritage site in Sibiloi National Park and the lake its self with its island in the centre.  Further south lies a host of other lakes- Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru - where hundreds of thousands of flamingos can be found, Lake Elementaita, the volcanically active Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria and the southern most Lake Magadi - another undiscovered treasure.  The Rift Valley is also the bed in which the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve lies
