Day 05    Breakfast at your lodge followed by departure to Lake Naivasha where you will spend your day at leisure. The fresh water lake – fringed by papyrus – was originally called Nai’posha by the Masai, which means rough waters.  This was later misspelt as Naivasha and this name has since stuck. The area is one of Kenya’s prime agricultural regions owing to the fertile soils and water supply from the lake.  Your afternoon will be spent enjoying the amenities of your lodge / camp.  There are a variety of activities to be enjoyed in this region: Boat rides on the lake, sundowners, bird walks, horseriding as well as cycling. Two smaller lakes nearby; Oloidien and Sonachi - a bright green crater lake - are worth exploring.  Safari drives to the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park can be arranged. The name Hell’s Gate is derived from the park’s predominant features - a pair of massive red tinged cliffs framing a geothermically active interior of steam vents and bubbling springs.  Unlike many other parks, walking is permitted in Hells’ Gate which makes it ideal for rock climbing and trekking.
